2009 LAKE FORK FISHING REPORT

October 4, 2009  Well, it's cooling off now and the bass and crappie fishing is starting to really heat up.  The big McDonald's tournament is over with and lots of bass were caught in all different depths and on all kinds of baits.  Remember that the Toyota ShareLunker Program has started.  Yes, Toyota is New Title Sponsor for ShareLunker Program.  If your fish meets the requirements , call the toll-free, 24-hour pager at 1-888-784-0600 (October 1-April 30 only) or (903) 681-0550.  For more information follow this link...  http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/sharelunker/#

We are getting lots of rain and the lake is full.  When you go into fall with a full lake, that means all of October and November will be great topwater fishing for numbers of good bass and some really big bass on jigs and big worms.  For the last two weeks we have seen some schooling bass, with some of the schools with 5 to 7 pound bass busting the shad.  We are catching some of the bigger bass out of these schools on a 3/8 ounce Mark Stevenson Lake Fork Jig made by Johnson's Custom Baits, swimming it through the school.

Topwater baits are picking up on the grass beds in the mornings for the first two hours of the day or all throughout the day if you have good cloud cover.  Then we start swimming a jig through the grass and catching some really good bass.  With the high water, the grass beds are just going to get better and better.  Along with the high water over the grass, you can also fish a spinnerbait or a shallow running crankbait.  There are a lot of small bass on the rampage right now and will bite a whacky worm really good.  Our favorite colors are Green Pumpkin, Watermelon/Red flake, and Junebug.  We prefer to use a very light nail weight, but will go a little heavier if we are fishing out around 10 foot or so.

The deep water fishing is hit and miss right now.  I look for it to take a week or so for the lake to settle down after the rains stop, for the deeper bite to start picking up again.  In November our good spoon and jig fishing in the deep water will really turn on.  This time of the year can be a lot of fun, fishing our Chartreuse and Chrome jigging spoon in 20 to 30 foot of water.  Some days you will catch bass, crappie, yellow bass and catfish all in the same area.  We love catching the yellow bass and look forward to eating them afterwards.  This is also a really good way of locating the crappie.  Don't get discouraged if you are fishing the deep roadbeds, humps and such, if you are catching yellow bass or sometimes called bar fish or bar bass.  If there are yellow bass in the area, chances are there are some big bass lurking around and looking for a nice meal.  It is not unusual for us to have big bass follow hooked yellow bass all the way up to the boat or even take them off the hook for you.  To catch the big bass in these schools of yellow bass, we will slow the spoon down or even hold it for a few seconds just off the bottom.

Like I said, the Share A Lunker program has started and this fall should be a really good time to catch one of these giants.  Give us a call and we will set up a trip to try and catch one of these hawgs for you.  It is also time to book your trip to catch some of our great big crappie for your next fish fry.  We offer gift certificates for any occasion, and they make great Christmas gifts for those hard to buy for family and friends.

We are booking now for spring, so if you can get your dates set, give us a call or email and get in on some of the best fishing of the year.  Hope you catch your personal best or the lunker you have been searching for this season.  All ages are welcome, novice to pro, single or groups.

Bass Wishes and Tight Lines to you all,

 2009

It's Jan. and time to get things setup for the prespawn and spawn fishing.  Gas prices are down and are suppose to stay that way for a while, so we are are going to keep our prices the same for at least the next 6 months.

We fished 2 days before the new year and 2 days after the new year and caught 35 bass on traps and suspending jerkbaits in 3 to 6 ft. of water.  Nice weather except for some wind, Water temp. was 53 to 58 degrees and water visibility was 3 ft. We had a 10,  8, 2 over 6 and 3 over 5 and the rest of the bass where 2 to 4 lbs. and one that was a mighty 11 inches. I'm afaird with the rain that is forcast that this kind of fishind will stop until another big warmup happens.

Overall fishing should be good, and just get better as we get to the big spawning blowout. Most of our first time people want to know when the big fish start. Feb. March and April. Is when the most Share-A- Lunker fish are caught. May will produce some of the best towater fishing fof 3 to 7 lb. fish that you have ever seen.

Jan. thru Feb. can produce some of the best jig fishing along creeks and wooded points  If the water is above 52 degrees there can also be great fishing on big spinnerbaits and chatterbaits.

Our boats have already been serviced and our new tackle in, so we are ready to take you out on a trip of a lifetime or at least a great trip

NOTE:  The fishing report was getting a little slow to load so we split each year into it's own page.  The fish usually do the same things year after year so we thought the past info would be good to refer back to.
