1997 LAKE FORK FISHING REPORTS

The fishing report was getting a little slow to load so we split off the 1997 reports.  You know how fish are, they should keep doing the same things year after year, so we chose not to delete these old reports.
Please keep checking the 1999 Lake Fork Fishing Report

NOVEMBER & DECEMBER 1997

OK, SO WE GOT LAZY IN REPORTING, SORRY, WE PROMISE TO DO BETTER IN 1998

LAKE FORK FISHING REPORT - OCTOBER 1997

Barbara's customer Albert Malmberg with 8# plus bass
October has been fun.  Mark worked a lot and caught some quality fish ( no camera in the boat, what an excuse!?!?!?!?!?!?).  Lots of fish caught on spinner baits & jigs with plastic chunk trailers.
A R has finally been released after surgery and is rearing to get back in the swing of fishing.
Barbara's customer caught the fish pictured above, a personal best for Albert Malmburg 8# PLUS, he fished with the G E O Specialty Chemicals trip from Little Rock, AR.

LAKE FORK FISHING REPORT - SEPTEMBER 1997

The Weatherman lied ... fall is here and the cold front didn't arrive as promised.

The fall spurt of grass is growing and the bass are starting to move along the edges, but more importantly the shad are really running up and down the grass beds.

Lots of schooling bass in open water and on some days they can even be caught! It's really shaping up to be a good fall. The water is only seven (7) inches below normal, so there's lots of water in the back of the creeks, where a lot of active topwater fish will be before long.

Barbara had two (2) really good days this week on Carolina rigs around the grass. Her group had 6 over the slot with 2 over 8 pounds.

LAKE FORK FISHING REPORT - JULY 1997

It's July, really hot and very little wind or rain.  Most of our fishing trips have been a night.

The lake level is holding up well.  The grass is in fairly good shape for the heat, surface temps can sometimes run as high as 92 degrees or more in the daytime.

Best baits - Day        Early & Late topwater action on Pop-R's.  Fish are schooling early & late.

Best baits - Night     Black spinner baits.
                                    5/16oz Jigs w/Pork Trailer
                                    10" Power worm

Bends of the creeks are producing good night catches.  No giants, but we have been happy with the numbers.

LAKE FORK FISHING REPORT - JUNE 1997

It's June, it's hot and so can the day & night fishing be.  We are moving more & more to night trips as the weather heats up.

Right now the lake is brim full.  Fish are coming out of shallow water (hard to believe) on top waters, Texas rigged worms and light Carolina rigged lizards.

Best baits:        1.    Watermelon & Pumpkin lizards
                            2.    7" & 10" Blue fleck Power Worms
                            3.    Zara spooks, poppers ( chugger ) and sluggo type baits

There are some good spots deep and  they are producing best in the afternoon.  Deep points with brush and bends in the creeks are the best structure.

There are still more catchable fish shallow, but the deep water will really kick in pretty soon.  Night fishing is really starting to hit it's stride with July & August being 2 of our best months.

We are catching most of our fish off of the grass edges with:
                        1.    10" Power Worms.
                        2.    1/2 oz. black spinner baits w/ a single Colorado blade just ticking the grass
                                tops.
                        3.    1/4 to 5/16 oz. jig with a Bo-Hawg frog.  This bait seems to work best when
the fish have gotten tight on cover just outside the grass edges.

In the last 2 weeks Barbara has kicked A. R & my tails with big fish.  One of her customers caught an 11.1 and she caught a 10.08 both out of 4 feet of water.  We've all caught a lot of 5-7 pound fish.  It seems about every 4th day the fishing gets tough, then kicks back in.

Good Luck & come fishing with us,

Mark & Barbara Stevenson and A R Sachtleben
