2000 LAKE FORK FISHING REPORT

The fishing report was getting a little slow to load so we split off the 1999 reports.  You know how fish are, they should keep doing the same things year after year, so we chose not to delete these old reports.
Please keep checking the 2001 Lake Fork Fishing Report

If any of these pictures are duplicates - it is my mistake.  We are all getting used to this new technology.

The 3 guides that share this website are my husband and our 2 best friends.  They are all good fishermen, have been guiding on Lake Fork for a long time and base their business on their reputations.  They don't have a product to sell.  Their ability to fish and do their best to show their customers a good day of fishing is their only product.  PS - they are all really good at that.  Arla

If you didn't fish Fork in October, you missed some good fishing.  Well, at least after the fish settled down from the McDonald's and Skeeter tournaments.

All in all the last 2 weeks of October were pretty good.  We started catching fish on buzzbaits, topwaters and wacky worms in the shallow water.

It has rained for the last 3 days and the lake is coming up.  This should make November and the first 2 weeks of December really good.

We've been catching a lot of the 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 lb bass.  This new water should perk up the bigger fish, especially if you slow down and do some serious jig fishing.

All of the newly flooded stuff should really produce on spinners, topwaters and worms.  Fishing the outer edges of the deeper grass should produce some big ones on a jig.

Of course the deep fish should also pick up after the rising water has settled down.  A jigging spoon, thumpin shad, and Carolina rig should catch these fish off the points, deep humps and creek channels.

Give us a call for a trip - let us know if you want to fish for a big fish or just go fishing and catch any size that will bite.

Thanks,  Mark

Mark just got back from the Angler's Choice Pro Am Championship.  I don't know what he weighed in but he went from ZIPPO on Friday, along with about 28 others and made a strong move to 9th place on Saturday.  Congrats Mark!!!  ( Now, get back to work --- Arla )

The weather is maybe going to give us a break ( it's about time since it's Dove season and all ).  If your trigger finger is tired and you have your share of chigger bites, give us a call and come to Lake Fork.

Wes Masters caught this 11 pound beauty last night fishing with Barbara.  Wes was using a 10 inch worm on the 1st Qtr moon.

Ken and kids - Christy and Brandon tried Lake Fork again today.  Ken and Christy fished with A R for 10 fish up to 6 pounds.  Same centipede pattern as last week, watermelon.
Brandon fished with Barbara today for 6 fish up to 4 pounds.  Barbara is fishing Watermelon Wacky worms and Texas Smoke Baby Ring Frys. Brandon lost one between 8 and 9 pounds - it waved to him as it shook loose from the hook.  Better luck next time Brandon.

It's really hot out but there is still some good morning and late evening fishing.  Give any of us a call if you're needing a fishing fix.

Hope you had fun,   A.R.

Fishing is pretty good for this time of the year.  The fish don't seem to care what the temperature is.

My clients and I caught 18 in the A.M. up to 6 pounds in 10-14 feet of water. I am catching most of my fish on a Watermelon Centipede Carolina Rig.  Had a morning trip last Saturday and caught 14 on the same pattern.

All that rain we had in May and June really helped the lake -  good vegetation and plenty of water to see us through the summer.

Good luck,   A.R.

Well we've gotten thru the Black Bass Virus and the Long Hot Drought.  Yet, it's true.  The fishing hasn't been up to the standards of Lake Fork for 6 months. THEN the rains started about 6 weeks ago and it's getting better and better and better!!!

The grass is growing in shallow water and now has 3 ft. of new water over it and lots of good fish are using it.  We have been averaging 20-30 bites a day on popping baits, Johnson Buzz baits and spinners.  We are catching very solid and healty 4-6 lb. bass off of these grass beds.

After the shallow bite slows, we are throwing a Black Emerald or Watermelon B.A.Hawg by Mr. Twister on the edge of the grass and points in 8-10 ft. of water.

For the guys who like to pitch jigs - we are using a 1/2oz. Mark Stevenson Lake Fork Jig by Johnson Bait Co. to catch some of the bigger fish.  The best pattern is the side of a creek in 6-10 ft. of water around the biggest stumps.  Some real line stretchers are being hung this way.  The best colors have been Black/Blue, Watermelon and Pumpkin Neon.  I'm using a Mr. Twister Craw Chunk on the back of the jig.

I haven't been fishing a Carolina rig in deep water becaust I can catch such good bass shallow.  During the Randy White tournament 2 weeks ago everybody reported catching lots of 4-5 lb. fish on spinners and 2-3 lbs. on Carolina rigs in 15-22 ft. of water.

I've night fished 3 nights this month.  I had more night trips but got rained out.  We had a lot of bites on jigs and 10" worms but a lot of the fish were hard to stick good.  We went to a 1/2 oz. black single blade spinner and started sticking the fish.  Really good night fishing.  Our best night was during the dark of the moon.  We had 14 bass from 5-7 1/2 lbs. and 11 bass from 2-3 1/2 lbs.  We caught a total of 25 fish, which made for a good night.

Cooper has also filled up and some good fish are being caught on jigs and spinners.  I think Cooper is going to be good for some big fish in the next 45 days.

Give us a call for a day or night trip soon. All this new water has got the fish bitiing.

Thanks,  Mark

Ken and Ana had 6 fish by lunch, up to 7 1/2 pounds Wednesday, May 17th with Barbara.  Lizards and French Frys.

They were probably having so much fun that they didn't even miss their poor kid.  Traveling Europe with only a back pack and DR. PEPPER.  ( If you have DR. PEPPER you can conquer the world! )  Have fun Douglas.

3/30/00 - Terri from Oklahoma with a 8.0 lb. bass, caught on a watermelon blue flake fluke in real shallow water fishing with Barbara.  She had to bring the fish over submerged logs and around stick ups.  It was quite a fight for awhile there!  This was Terri's first trip to Lake Fork, and a memorable one.  Laura had about a 15 lb. Grindle on fishing with A.R., and Laura & Jackie were wacky worm queens of the day fishing with Mark.  We had a lot of fun fishing with the gals from Oklahoma and they are excellent anglers.

3/28/00 - Sherman with a 8.8 lb. bass, caught on a watermelon green flake craw worm.

Sherman can fish in Barbara mode real good.  He fished slow enough to have a mussel attach itself to his hook!

3/28/00 - Christy with a 5 lb. bass, caught on a watermelon craw worm.

David caught a 6.3, a 5.5 and a 6.0 fishing with Barbara and Tracy.  Barbara and Tracy were feeling a little bit "thumped" by the end of the day.

Britt caught this 7.5 with Barbara on what looks like a cold but calm day.

Randy caught this 5 lb 10 oz fishing with A R and Hans on Monday, March 27, 2000.  Hope you get to come back real soon.

It is really busy for Mark, Barbara and A R right now.  If I can slow them down, maybe we can get some kind of fishing report, till then - pictures will have to do.  Arla

If you are interested in booking a trip let any of them know.

Glendon and Garry caught these nice fish with A R last week.  A R had to show off and snag this 9 pounder.

Tynus managed to fish another sunny day and grab onto this 10 pounder.  Mark found an old 9 pounder to try to keep up.

Charlie caught this nice one on a Johnson Spinnerbait on 02/24/2000 fishing with
A R. -   Barbara and A R really enjoyed fishing with the US Ink guys and their guests.

I don't know how it happened THE SUN WAS SHINING - it always rains when Tynus gets to come to Lake Fork.  Looks like he had a good day.  Tynus caught 4 fish between 5 1/2 and 6 pounds.

Hondo caught two nice fish with Mark last week - 5 pounds and 5 1/2 pounds.
The blur in the top right hand corner is Mark's finger - well we are still learning with our camera!!

February 14, 2000

February is here and no rain.  The lake is low.  The bass are trying to move between the cold fronts. In the last few weeks there have been some 11 & 12 pound fish caught and it should be getting better.

The best bite has been mid-day to late afternoon.  The baits working best for numers have been a Chart/White Johnson 1/2 oz spinnerbait ticking the scattered grass and along shallow creek banks.  A soft or hard jerkbait will catch some really nice slot fish up to 6 1/2 pounds in the afternoons around the outer grass edges and along tree lines.  Gold seems to be the best in the hard jerkbait and watermelon or shad in the soft jerkbait.

If you will fish a 1/2 oz Stevenson Lake Fork Jig in 4 to 8 feet of water around stumps and creeks you can catch some of the better bass.

The next 3 weeks should produce some really good fish on the old reliable Rat-L-Trap.  The fish just haven't really gotten on it good but should as soon as the water warms with the predicted warm days for this week.

We all got digital cameras for Christmas - let's go catch something for show & tell.  Give us a call.

Thanks,  Mark

OK - I have to admit -  been golfing and christmasing and new yearsing.

Now it's time to get back to SERIOUS BUSINESS ----- FISHING!!!!

The fishing has been typical winter patterns.  One day 3 or 4 fish, maybe the next day 15 to 20.  Shallow more consistant with Rat-L-Traps, 4" worms and such. Deep 30' - 36' on Johnson Spoons. Crappie have been doing well!  Minnows and jigs.

Happy New Year and be thinking about spawn.  It will be here before we know it.

Thanks,  A R

NOTE:  The fishing report was getting a little slow to load so we split each year into it's own page.  The fish usually do the same things year after year so we thought the '97,'98 & '99 info would be good to refer back to.
